Our Verdict

The Alesis Strike Pro SE, and the Roland TD-17KV are quite different e-drum kits. If you do plan to use your e-drum kit on live performances then you might want to lean a bit towards the Alesis Strike Pro SE. But, if you need to transport your kit often, or you need a compact, small e-drum kit, in that case the Roland TD-17KV might be a better option.

The Alesis Strike Pro Special Edition is a better value e-drum kit overall. It has more features, a full-sized drum kick and the drum module has more sounds and kits build-in. It also has better stage presence. The Roland TD-17KV on the other hand has a very good build quality and great triggering.

There is a pretty big difference in the price between the two, so if budget is an issue then you might want the consider the Roland TD-17KV. Though when you consider the specification and feature differences the price point is quite understandable.

Key Differences

The Alesis Strike Pro SE has a 20" full-sized kick drum, while the Roland TD-17KV has a 5" kick tower.

The Roland TD-17 drum module has only 310 sounds, which is very little compared to Alesis Strike Performance Drum Module that has 1800 sounds built-in.

The Alesis Strike Pro SE has one extra tom pad and two extra crash cymbal pads.

The Roland TD-17KV V-Drums is equipped with the TD-17, while the Alesis Strike Pro Special Edition uses the Strike Performance Module.

Key Features in Common

Both e-drum kits have mesh heads, which makes it easier to adjust the tension on the pads.

Both the TD-17KV and the The Alesis Strike Pro SE have good effects and sound editing capabilites.

The drum modules fitted in both of the e-drum kits have on-board recording, metronome and custom sampling, although the TD-17 has only SD card custom sampling, instead of on-board sampling such as the Alesis Strike Performance drum module.

If you plan on using your e-drum kit in live performances, and the budget is not limited the Alesis Strike Pro SE is the better option. It looks better, has better features and better drum module overall. If, however your budget is limited than the Roland TD-17KV is a great e-drum kit, with great build quality and triggering.
