Which is Better?

The Roland TD-50KV2 has a better stage presence, because of the full-sized drum kick, but it also has a drum module that has much more sounds than the TD-50KV's drum module. There is no difference in build quality between the two, and arguably the TD-50KV is a better value e-drum kit.

Roland TD-50KV V-Drums
vs
Roland TD-50KV2 V-Drums

The biggest difference between the Roland TD-50KV2 and the TD-50KV is that the TD-50KV2 has the new, updated TD-50X drum module, as well as an 18" full-sized kick drum, while the TD-50KV comes with the TD-50 drum module, that is inferior to the TD-50X, as well as a kick tower that is certainly a downgrade from a full-sized kick drum.

Both e-drum kits are very capable, and arguably, the Roland TD-50KV is more compact and can fit almost anywhere. It can also save you a substantial amount of money if you don't need the upgraded features from the TD-50KV2.

Key Differences

The main difference between the two is the drum module itself. The TD-50KV2's TD-50X drum module has 900 sounds, while the TD-50 drum module has 400. The TD-50X has other features included such as the ability to turn off snare strainer.

The 18" full-sized kick drum on the TD-50KV2 is much better than the kick tower on the TD-50KV. Not only that it is the main driver for the better stage presence of the TD-50KV2, but also has better feel to it when you play it.

The Roland TD-50KV V-Drums is equipped with the TD-50, while the Roland TD-50KV2 V-Drums uses the TD-50X.

Verdict

Roland TD-50KV V-Drums
vs
Roland TD-50KV2 V-Drums

If you plan on doing live performances, than the TD-50KV2 might be a better choice because of the better kick drum as well as some other minor feature improvements such as the digital snare. But if value and portability are important for you, than the TD-50KV is still a great e-drum kit.
